Pittsburgh Public School Student Wins $25,000 Premier Science and Engineering Competition Award

Broadcom Foundation and Society for Science have awarded Pittsburgh Public School Student Thomas Aldous with the $25,000 Samueli Foundation Award. The top award in the Broadcom MASTERS, the nation’s premier science and engineering competition for middle school students. Aldous then an eighth grader at Pittsburgh Colfax, now a freshman at Allderdice High School, built a robotic hand that can help with remote rescue missions. Aldous joined the Rick Dayton Show to show off the robotic hand and talk about the experience of winning the award.
