Children's Hospital Colorado

Slacker and Steve talk with Keira, a patient ambassador to Children's Hospital Colorado. At 2 months old, Keira was diagnosed with an extremely rare genetic condition that affects her brain, lungs, thyroid and muscles. Luckily, one of the foremost experts in this condition – Dr. Robin Deterding – works at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Because this disease is so rare, every patient’s symptoms are different, so Keira’s journey involved some initial trial and error to determine what course of treatment would work best for her. With a lot of hard work and help from her care team at Children’s Colorado, Keira has made dramatic progress as she has grown, including learning how to swallow and eat on her own and taking her first assisted steps just before her 4th birthday. By age 6, she was walking without “Goldie,” her beloved, bejeweled walker. Keira talks about what Children's Hospital Colorado has meant to her in her journey.
