Over the past decade Richmond has become known for it's thriving food and beer scene. Time after time I find myself reading an article about how one of our restaurants is on this publication or that publication's Top 10 list of Best Reataurants or Breweries in America. Guy Fieri has even visited multiple establishments here for his television shows! Our food and beer scene makes us who we are! What's more Richmond than Happy Hour on a patio?
But right now, that same food and beer scene that has brought us nationwide recognition is suffering. Like the rest of the country, we are dealing with the social limitations that the coronavirus pandemic has brought and many of restaurants are closed or operating on limited hours. All of the servers and bartenders that help shape your experiences at your favorite local spots are out of work and are dealing with an uncertain future. Below are a few links to funds and organizations that have been set up to help servers and bartenders that are currently out of work right here in Richmond. If you know of another one that I have missed please DM me and I will update ASAP.
1. The Holli Fund
The Holli Fund was set up after the passing of Richmond food writer Hollister Lindley. In non-pandemic times, members of the food industry can apply for emergency financial grants from the fund. This Friday, The Holli Fund will be hosting a "virtual happy hour" and you can even text to make a donation. The Holli Fund's website is HERE and details on the virtual happy hour are below.
2. EAT Restaurant Partners Employee Relief Fund
EAT Restaurant Partners have a broad portfolio of restaurants including: Fat Dragon (I used to be a host there!), Beijing On Grove, Boulevard Burger and Brew, Pizza and Beer of Richmond, Foo Dog, Wong Gonzalez, Wong's Tacos and more. Most of their restaurants are still open and offering to go or delivery options for patrons (including beer and wine to go) and all gratuities will go to their employee relief fund. 3. Richmond Restaurant Group Employee Relief Fund
RRG also owns multiple establishments here in RVA including: The Daily Kitchen and Bar, Barrio Taqueria and Tequila, East Coast Provisions, The Hard Shell and more. Some of their restaurants are still offering to go food. You can make a donation to the fund HERE.
