The newly released track, is the first from her upcoming album MOSS, scheduled to drop on September 23. The follow up to the Stranger Things’ star debut album, Blush, which dropped in 2020.

In the Brady Corbet directed visual, Hawke leaves little to the imagination, as the video features lots of naked bodies and an orgy that even in the ominous nighttime forest backdrop can not be missed.

As the video nears its end, the steamy rendezvous gets a visit from the police, sending the group running throughout the forest. Walking scantily clad and handcuffed in a single file line with her naked party friends, Hawke sings, “It’s tactless, it’s a test / It’s just Thérèse”.

In the single’s official press release, Maya explains, “‘Thérèse’ is about the secret spaces we build where we are free to be ourselves, in a world that is always intentionally or systematically misunderstanding us.”

Hawke and Corbet premiered the video at New York’s Metrograph on July 17. Where as reported by Variety, she handed handwritten letters to guests about her thoughts on sexuality. “We are all bombarded with negative and doctored images of bodies all the time, whether we want to be or not,” Hawke explained.

“The ‘art’ I saw about sexuality when I was growing up (being honest… I am still growing up) helped free me from a culture that seems to want us all to hate ourselves and fear others, right? There is a lot to feel bleak about these days but it’s important to find moments of joy and look out for each other where and when we can these days.”
