Audacy host Mike Adam got a chance to check in with The Kid LAROI today, following his incredible 2021 MTV VMAs opening performance of his number one single "Stay" with Justin Bieber, to give us some details about his upcoming world tour, new music, and more.
Although LAROI had been given fair warning that "Stay" would be hitting the top of the charts, waking up to the official news via text message was a pleasant surprise. "I think the first people I texted were the people I made the song with. I was like, 'yeah number one, that's crazy guys! Isn't that cool."
His immediate family was obviously aware of the news, being in the same house and all, and it's something he says his mom is very proud of, even though some of the topics her son addresses could be alarming. "My mom understands that everything I do, that's like my therapy. That's my way of getting my feelings out, so I think she likes that that's a creative way to do that."
Already bubbling before being tapped by Justin Bieber on Instagram to be a part of his JUSTICE project, saying LAROI's "got the sauce," the Aussie-born singer played it cool, not wanting to "geek out" on him so early on. LAROI revealed that after singing for Bieber, he had searched through his own notes to find something for Justin to sing -- and landed on "Stay." The rest, as they say, is now VMAs history.
We've got even more big news...
LAROI will also be making a stop while he's trekking the globe at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 23 for Audacy's We Can Survive concert alongside Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Doja Cat, and Shawn Mendes! Tickets for We Can Survive go on sale on Friday, September 17 at 1PM ET / 10AM PT. Head to WeCanSurvive.com for tickets and further event info.
