Happy Friday, music fans. Today is a special day for shoegazers, as a new release from Radiohead arrives in multi-part form, in celebration of 20 years of Amnesiac.
Radiohead's KID A MNESIA is, in the band's own words, "a coming of age for Kid A & Amnesiac" joined by a new album, Kid Amnesiae, "a memory palace of half-remembered, half-forgotten sessions & unreleased material."
The British group's fourth and fifth albums respectively, Kid A, released in October 2000, and Amnesiac, arriving in the Spring the following year have historically been entwined as sort of sister albums. The latter, comprised of tracks taken from the band's GRAMMY-winning Kid A sessions, brought the fan favorites "Pyramid Song" and "Knives Out," and received a Recording Academy nomination for itself as well.
Today, November 5, along with the re-release of the group's noticeable departure from their previous work, Kid A, and its follow-up, Amnesiac, comes Kid Amnesiae -- a collection of 12 previously unreleased tracks featuring rarities, alternate versions, and more. As expected, the band has made the release available in a number of formats and with a few juicy extras.
It's streaming now on all services, of course, but fans of the tangible can pick up 3X-CD, vinyl, and color vinyl versions of the release, as well as a limited edition 2X-cassette version, called Kid Amnesiette. The cassette, limited to 5000 copies, features five extra B-sides and includes within its "box of wonders" a 36-page booklet "filled with artwork of great strangeness and suffused with worrisome portents of the future - the future which we now inhabit."
There is also a 360-page hardback book full of artwork available, created while the records were being conceived, rehearsed, recorded, and produced, new tee shirt designs, and more. Check out the tracklistings below and see all of the offerings right here.
