The Padres lost to the Cubs 7-1 on Sunday afternoon, as Ryan Weathers struggled mightily. The southpaw wasn't able to get out of the 2nd inning, as he allowed 5 earned runs on 7 hits and a walk while recording just 5 outs. Weathers gave up solo homers to Yan Gomes and Trey Mancini in the 2nd, as well as a 2-run double to Dansby Swanson, putting the Padres in a 5-0 hole after Nico Hoerner scored on a throwing error by Manny Machado in the 1st inning. Drew Carlton gave up a 2-run homer to Miguel Amaya in the 3rd inning, and the Padres found themselves in a 7-0 hole. The Friars would get on the board in the bottom of the 3rd on an RBI-groundout by Juan Soto, but in the end, that would be the lone run the Padres would score as they mustered just 5 hits on the day. The Padres will attempt to salvage a series split on Monday night when they send Blake Snell to the mound.
