The Padres defeated the White Sox 3-2 to climb back to .500 on Friday night, but were eliminated from playoff contention earlier in the evening when the Marlins defeated the Pirates. Nick Martinez was fantastic, striking out 8 over 5 scoreless innings. The Friars carried a 3-0 lead into the 8th inning, when Robert Suarez allowed a solo home run to Yoan Moncada. Josh Hader wasn't his sharpest in the 9th, allowing a solo home run to Carlos Perez, but ultimately induced a game-ending double play to earn his 33rd save of the year. The Padres have two games left in Chicago to try and finish the season above .500.
