Nick Foles ‘Scary Calm’ in Philadelphia Eagles’ Comeback Playoff Win Over Chicago Bears

PHILADELPHIA (94 WIP) -- Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nick Foles did it again.

Foles orchestrated a 12-play, 60-yard touchdown drive that started with 4:48 to go in the fourth quarter and ended with a fourth-and-goal touchdown pass to Golden Tate with just 0:56 remaining in an eventual 16-15 wild-card playoff victory over the Chicago Bears.

Foles' demeanor during the drive -- and high-pressure situations, in general -- was "scary calm," according to his head coach.

"He is unbelievablely calm," Doug Pederson said Monday on the 94WIP Morning Show.

"It's a scary calm. You wonder sometimes if he's got a pulse and he's feeling the moment, but I know he is and that's the thing because we talked even during the game. He was really good during the game, his mind was in the right spot, he was focused. You know, and just in those moments he's delivered."

Tight end Zach Ertz echoed the same sentiments after the game, regarding Foles.

Foles was 8-of-11 on third and fourth down for 79 yards, with a touchdown and a 129.2 passer rating.

Pederson also talked about the recpient of Foles' game-winning touchdown: Tate caught five of eight targets for 46 yards and a score.

"That's what we brought him here for, Angelo. Good time to use it, right?" Pederson joked. "He's very good at that short, intermediate type of route."

The Eagles’ win means their magical run will now take them back to New Orleans, the city where their season was left for dead back in Week 11.

The 48-7 beatdown was the worst loss of Doug Pederson’s time as head coach -- and the turning point of the Eagles’ season. The Eagles have been a different team since that game, giving fans reasons to hope the result might be different next Sunday as well.

Foles was on the bench the last time the two teams met, with Carson Wentz starting and turning in one of his worst games as a starter. Wentz had accuracy issues, he made poor decisions and he threw three interceptions. He played small on a big stage in a game the Eagles needed to win.

That likely won’t be the case from the Eagles’ quarterback next weekend. Foles has this offense playing at an elite level, and with a 4-1 record in the playoffs, he is one of the toughest quarterbacks in the league to knock out of the postseason. In fact, since the Saints beat the Eagles, Foles' offense is averaging more points than Drew Brees' Saints offense is.

The Eagles are still nine-point underdogs. Beating the Saints will not be easy. This current group of Eagles, however, is much more capable of getting the job done than the group that got embarrassed last time around.
