Celebs React After Jussie Smollett’s Criminal Charges Dropped

In a stunning turn of events on Tuesday, prosecutors dropped all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett for allegedly staging his own racist and homophobic assault earlier this year.

Reactions to the developments have been polarizing with many celebrities sharing their thoughts on the Empire star’s case.

Questlove expressed his vindication by simply tweeting the news with the caption: “Told Yall.”

Director Ava Duvernay seemed to echo his thoughts by re-sharing one of her older tweets about the case.

“Despite the inconsistencies, I can’t blindly believe Chicago PD. The department that covered up shooting Laquan McDonald over a dozen times? That operated an off-site torture facility? That one? I’ll wait. Whatever the outcome, this won’t stop me from believing others. It can’t,” Duvernay originally tweeted on February 17.

George Takei tried to stay levelheaded and urged people not to jump to any conclusions yet.

“There are lots of things we apparently should not pre-judge before we have all the facts, like Jussie Smollett (all charges dropped?!) and the Mueller report (not yet public!!),” the Star Trek star tweeted to his nearly 3 million followers.

But it was Final Destination star Devon Sawa who believes justice was not served by letting Smollett off the hook.

“The Smollett announcement is yet another example of how our court system is broken. Lawyers look for loopholes and mistakes and then negotiate deals,” the 40-year-old wrote.

Also chiming in were Smollett’s co-workers as the Empire writers’ tweeted their excitement by writing:  “See y’all Wednesday.”  The FOX show airs on Wednesdays.

In a statement, FOX expressed their satisfaction with the latest developments.

“Jussie Smollett has always maintained his innocence and we are gratified that all charges against him have been dismissed.”
