By , KCBS All News 106.9FM and 740AM

Gov. Gavin Newsom ordered seven counties to immediately close any bars and nightspots Sunday, including Los Angeles and Fresno Counties, citing growing coronavirus numbers statewide.

Other counties given the mandatory order are Imperial, Kern, Kings, San Joaquin and Tulare.

The governor is also recommending bars close in Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sacramento, Riverside, San Bernardino, Santa Barbara, Stanislaus and Ventura Counties, though the order is not a mandate.

The announcement comes a day after the state set a single-day record for hospitalizations during the coronavirus pandemic.
