Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger is cautioning residents that double-voting is a felony.
At the Georgia Capitol Tuesday morning, Sec. Raffensperger said his office is investigating 1,000 incidents in which persons cast ballots twice during the Primary Election held on June 9.
According to Raffensperger, those voters filed an absentee ballot and then showed up at the polls and voted again on Election Day.
In the chaos of the coronavirus pandemic, some voters expressed concern that their ballots likely would not be received in time to be counted, so they chose to vote in person. You are allowed to cancel an absentee ballot and to then cast a ballot in person.
In response to Raffensperger’s press conference, Democratic Party of Georgia Executive Director Scott Hogan released a statement saying “Voter fraud continues to be extremely rare in Georgia, and any implication otherwise undermines our elections.”
Hogan went on to say, “It is clear that rather than do his job of promoting the safety and security of our voting process, the Secretary of State is instead pushing the GOP’s voting conspiracy theories and disinformation, as he fights in court to make voting by mail less accessible to voters."
