NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A fisherman caught a massive great white shark off the coast of New Jersey this month.
Tim Brindley was fishing for fluke on Aug. 1 when he found the shark tangled in his trawl net 2 ½ miles northeast of Barnegat Inlet, according to the Asbury Park Press.
"I just thought, 'Oh my God, there's a great white shark in the net,'" Brindley told the outlet.
Brindley posted several photos of the giant fish to Facebook. It appears to be about twice the length of Brindley, who is 5-foot-10-inches tall.
The 58-year-old fisherman wrote that the shark “looked to be dead for a couple of days” and had died before it got picked up by his net.
He said he has some regrets about posting the photos because he’s received criticism from people who believe he killed the shark.
“I’m getting a little grief over it,” Brindley said. “I felt I had to do something. I wanted to show people there are great white sharks out there.”
There have been numerous shark sightings in the tri-state this summer, most of them on Long Island, where beaches have been repeatedly closed, including this week.
And in July, a college student reeled in a nearly 400-pound bull shark off the coast of Nickerson Beach.
