WASHINGTON (106.7 The Fan) -- All signs indicate the Bryce Harper sweepstakes are now a three-horse race between the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies.
The Giants, according to Kerry Crowley of The Mercury News, met with Harper and agent Scott Boras on Tuesday in Las Vegas, for the second time in two weeks.
This report comes on the heels of a tweet from Smash Mouth (yes, the band Smash Mouth) regarding an internal conflict among San Francisco executives about the length of a potential offer to Harper.
But Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reported the Giants and Harper's camp have talked about a 10-year deal, and The Athletic on Wednesday described "the sense in the Giants clubhouse" is the team has "a very legitimate shot" of landing Harper.
The Dodgers re-entered the picture earlier this week after representatives, including manager Dave Roberts, met with Harper on Sunday.
Phillies owner John Middleton also met with the All-Star outfielder last weekend. However, baseball insider Steve Phillips reported Wednesday the Phillies now believe their chances of signing Bryce Harper are "remote." On Tuesday, 94WIP host Angelo Cataldi reported the Phillies and Harper's camp were at an impasse in talks over the inclusion of an opt-out clause in the contract.
Per OddsShark, the Dodgers are now the favorites to sign Harper.
