President Donald Trump on Monday falsely claimed Joe Biden wants to “lock all Americans in their basements for months on end” to mitigate the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to a crowd in Mankato, Minnesota during a campaign stop on Monday, Trump said the Democratic presidential candidate “wants to lock all Americans in their basements for months on end, which would inflict permanent, irreversible harm on our nation’s children, families, health and economy.”
“By contrast, my administration is following data-driven and science-based approaches that apply to common sense mitigation, aggressively sheltering those at greatest risk, our seniors, we have to shelter them, and delivers effective medical treatments to save thousands and thousands of lives,” he said.
Biden last week called on the Trump administration to implement a nationwide mask mandate, saying doing so could save approximately 40,000 lives from COVID-19 over the next three months.
Monday wasn’t the first time Trump claimed Biden wanted to “lock Americans in their basements.” The president made the same remark during a White House briefing last week, the Daily Beast reported.
