The recruitment of Kevin Durant to the Big Apple has begun.

A billboard showing a portrait of the Golden State Warriors star alongside Kristaps Porzingis in Knicks uniforms has gone up outside Madison Square Garden. It also features the Larry O’Brien Trophy and reads "CAN YOU MAKE NY SPORTS GREAT AGAIN?"

The billboard is in the same location as one last spring that tried to entice LeBron James to join the Knicks. Both were paid for by NYCAdsCo.com.

Of course, James ended up leaving Cleveland for the Lakers. It remains to be seen how realistic the Knicks' chances of landing Durant as a free agent next summer are, but there have been rumors that he is at least open to the idea. The Knicks are in position to offer a max contract.

In the 12 seasons since the Seattle SuperSonics drafted him second overall in 2007, Durant, 30, has been selected to nine All-Star Games, was voted NBA MVP in 2013-14 with the Thunder and has won two league titles with the Warriors, which included being voted NBA Finals MVP both times.
