PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Center City District is celebrating the summer season at Dilworth Park this weekend, for an event they call "The Garden."
The pop-up installation sees the park specially decorated with pergolas and waves of silk butterfiles. Michelle Shannon, vice president of marketing and communications for the Center City District, describes them as "Instagrammable backdrops."
"It's our homage to the Philadelphia Flower Show and the fact that the Philadelphia area is the world's garden capital," she said.
Shannon also said the district's other aim is just to bring joy and color to people. "We've got floral chandeliers, we've got a butterfly swarm on the lawn and just all kinds of floral decor," she described.

There are also activities planned for the weekend, including pot decorating, chalk stencils, ping pong and a bubble magic show.
In addition to the Garden, Shannon said this opening weekend for Dilworth Park's new Philadelphia Marketplace, which includes 10-12 local vendors out on the plaza.
"Many of them are women-owned and minority-owned businesses, and we are so happy we're going to have them on a regular basis," she said.
Philadelphia Marketplace vendors will be in the park weekends through October.
