Before diving in, Jenn and Daryl bond over being Philadelphia locals, and what Daryl gets nostalgic about when it comes to the Philadelphia region.
"I get nostalgic for the way it used to be. When I was a kid it was farms out there, and it's not that anymore. But yes, once you come from Philadelphia, you don't leave it."
'D' - Hall's first release in 13 years, is set to arrive on June 21st, and he's bringing his Summer Tour with Elvis Costello to The Mann Center in Philadelphia on July 10th. With new music in store, Jenn asks Daryl what inspired these new songs.
"Except for 2 of them, which were written a little earlier, they were all written on the spot with my friend Dave Stewart. We just came up with ideas. I had phrases, little thoughts, and we developed songs around those things. It all happened down in the Bahamas where we both have houses. So, there's not an island feel in the record at all, but sort of an attitude that's casual and fun, y'know? We had a lot of fun making the record."
Continuing to chat about the record and his single "Can't Say No To You," Hall dives into what it was like to collaborate with long-time friend of 30 years, Dave Stewart.
"Dave and I have been friends a long time. We really are quite close. We know each other like 'Forget about it,' and we have a way of working together that is just extraordinary, you know? He's as quick as I am, and we just bounce ideas back and forth and make them happen. It's all really exciting and kinetic."
With his tour stop in Philadelphia just weeks away, Hall shares how excited he is to divulge into all things Philly, and his favorite thing about touring.
"I think just the performance. Touring is sort of like the army, you know? It's very up in weight, everything's the same, a lot of travel and this and that - but that time you're on the stage is transcendent. That's what makes it all worth it."
