PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl between the Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs, Mural Arts Philadelphia has thrown some support behind the Birds.
A new Eagles mural stands at 1223 South Broad Street. Muralist Tiff Urquhart described the “Go Birds” mural as a symbolic nod to the crazy, beautiful nature of Philly and its green team.
“I wanted to balance out the energy and chaos of the fans and the city itself,” she said, “the fans, the players. I made the Eagles poised, focused and concentrated.”
Eagles fan Chrissy was decked out in her Birds gear with big hopes as she looked up at Urquhart spray-painting the finishing touches.
“They better win,” she said.
In the end, Urguhart says, it will perfectly represent a city known for its grit and energy. “When I finish up, there will be a bunch of patterns, some colors [and] textiles going on,” she said. “It’s perched on top of a football.”
Mural Arts invites everyone to visit “Go Birds” and other Eagles murals, take selfies and post them to social media using the hashtag #MuralsOnTheHunt, to support the team.
