PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Southeastern Pennsylvania counties have seen gains in the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine allotment this week.

Next week, those gains will be wiped out.

When the Pennsylvania Department of Health announced plans to expand vaccine eligibility, they said each southeastern county should expect 10,500 doses of Johnson & Johnson every week.

This week, the counties got about double that amount, around 20,000 each. County officials said that would go a long way to getting vaccines for the remaining unvaccinated population that is at least 65 years old.

However, the national Johnson & Johnson allotment next week is much lower.

Johnson & Johnson will distribute about 700,000 COVID-19 vaccines next week, according to the CDC. That is about 15% of this week's total that was just shy of 5 million.

The CDC also said that next week, Philadelphia and the states of Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania should all expect about 12% of what they received this week from Johnson & Johnson.

The Montgomery and Bucks County health departments said they have been told by the Department of Health to each expect about 5,000 doses of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine. That is in addition to their weekly vaccine allotments from Pfizer and Moderna.

Johnson & Johnson had an issue with a Baltimore manufacturer last week. Last week, 1 million doses from a Baltimore plant reportedly had to be tossed. The Baltimore Sun says the Johnson & Johnson weekly allotment will be lower until that plant gets the green light from federal officials to resume production.
