PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Jimmy Rollins, the Phillies’ iconic leadoff man for nearly a decade between 2001 and 2011, will be enshrined on the team’s Wall of Fame this upcoming season in a ceremony on Aug. 1, 2025.
As the leadoff man, Rollins was often a catalyst for a potent offense during the team’s back-to-back World Series runs in 2008 and 2009. A win in 2008 over the Tampa Bay Rays was the Phillies’ first since 1980.
The year before, Rollins declared the Phils the team to beat in the National League as the team won the National League East and advanced to its first playoffs since a 1993 World Series loss. They were subsequently swept by the Colorado Rockies in the first round, but Rollins won the National League MVP award for his season, which saw him achieve a quadruple double — double digit home runs, stolen bases, triples and doubles in a season — becoming only the fourth player in MLB history to do so. He also won the Silver Slugger that year.
In 15 of Rollins’ 17 total MLB seasons with the Phillies, his 2,306 hits is the most of any Phillies player ever, and he’s also top of the team’s history books in doubles and leadoff home runs.
As the team’s shortstop, a position he also held for 15 seasons, Rollins was a four-time gold glove winner.
Rollins was drafted by the Phillies in the second round of the 1996 MLB Draft out of Encinal High School in Alameda, California.
Of 2008 World Series winners, Rollins is the second player from that team to get a spot on the Wall of Fame. Left Fielder Pat Burrell was enshrined in 2015.
