LISTEN NOW: Jordan Knight talks New Kids On The Block's 35 year anniversary, their 'Magic Summer Tour,' and the evolution of boy bands
Getting ready to kick off their Magic Summer Tour in just a few weeks, Jordan shared how he and the band feel about being able to bring their music to the masses. “We're always excited… we always look forward to touring because we get to go around the country, we get to see new people, we get to see old friends, we get to make people laugh, and smile, and cry, and dance, and all that kind of stuff, and we get to do it ourselves… it’s a way to just be Kids again.”
Talking about the special guests joining along as opening acts, Jordan shared, “It’s us, and it's also Paula Abdul, and DJ Jazzy Jeff.” Noting that Abdul “has toured with us before, and she's got great songs, great hits that everyone's gonna know and love.” While Jazzy Jeff will “kind of get the crowd going… mix a lot of records, kind of like we're in a club, basically get everyone excited and ready to go. Then we're just gonna hit the stage and sing all our hits.”
Giving us a sneak peak of what songs are making the setlist, Knight listed off “all the big songs” including, “Step by Step,” “'I'll Be Loving You (Forever),” “Right Stuff,” 'Hangin, Tough,” “Cover Girl,” “Please Don't Go Girl,” “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind,)’” and “it goes on and on.”
As they celebrate their 35 year milestone, Knight also revealed how it feels about the role NKOTB played in paving the road for boy bands over the years.
"I do feel like we're definitely a part of the evolution of the boy band. I think we did kind of usher in like the new age boy band. We're definitely a part of that history.”
“It’s a little different… but it's all kind of all the same," Jordan shared, going on to offer his thoughts on two of the most recent and successful iterations — One Direction and BTS.
“BTS, there's a whole bunch of them and they're like sharp, very sharp dancers,” he said, while, “One Direction, they’re great singers but… not really into the choreography.”
