SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Alanis Morissette, Halsey, Stephen Colbert and Bill Burr are headed to the Garden State this summer.
The performers will headline the brand-new music, comedy, film and arts summer festival called North to Shore, announced Monday by New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy.
The multi-city festival will span Newark, Asbury Park and Atlantic City, each hosting one weekend of events in June. Murphy wants it to be bigger and better than the renowned South by Southwest festival.
“We said, you know what, the hell with that, man,” Murphy quipped at the expense of the Austin, Texas festival. “Let’s do this in Jersey. Let’s start our own unique brand of festival. Let’s do it our way. Let’s celebrate our diversity.
“Hopefully a few years from now, we’ll be able to look down on what Texas is doing and not trying to emulate it,” he added.
North to Shore is set to take place the following weekends:
• June 4-11 in Atlantic City
• June 14-18 in Asbury Park
• June 21-25 in Newark
Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small said there will be something for everyone over the course of the four-day weekend.
On March 22, the festival announced Gavin DeGraw and Colbie Caillat will perform at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall on June 9.
Small said he’s also excited to provide a stage for lesser-known and up-and-coming artists.
“Our beaches will be open and we can’t wait to host, ’cause one thing about Atlantic City: We definitely know how to party,” Small enthused.
