The Philadelphia Flyers have hired fan favorite John LeClair as a special advisor to hockey operations, the team announced on Thursday.
"Adding in John LeClair to work in conjunction with Patrick Sharp and the rest of our hockey operations group will be a powerful combination with their vast hockey knowledge and a 'team-first' mentality," said President of Hockey Operations Keith Jones via the team website. "John has been around the NHL and the game for a long time and knows what it takes to bring the core ethics of our foundation to the Philadelphia Flyers."
"I'm extremely excited and honored to be named a Special Advisor to Hockey Operations," said LeClair. "I'm most looking forward to being a part of this group and ensuring our number one priority is to bring the Stanley Cup to Philadelphia."
LeClair, 53, played for the Flyers from 1995-2004, the best years of his NHL career. LecLair scored 40-plus goals in five straight seasons (1995-2000) and 50-plus goals in three straight seasons (1995-1998) with Philadelphia. Overall, as part of the Legion of Doom with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg, LeClair totaled 333 goals (plus 35 in the playoffs), placing him in the top 10 Flyers' career goal scorers.
The Flyers continue to undergo front office changes, recently naming Danny Briere as the team's general manager and Keith Jones as the president. Earlier this week, the Flyers named Patrick Sharp as a special advisor.
Just eight days ago, the Flyers made their first big move under the Briere-Jonesy regime, trading defenseman Ivan Provorov.
