Giglio is tired of hearing excuses for Joel Embiid: 'He's their best player!'
As the 76ers get ready to try and fight off elimination against the Knicks on Tuesday night, Joe Giglio doesn't want to hear any more excuses for Joel Embiid.
After saying that the Sixers star "shrinks" when the lights shine the brightest, Giglio says he doesn't want hear anything about the lack of help Embiid has gotten in this series, or as a whole throughout his career. Sometimes, the star needs to put the team on his back and will them to victory.
"I understand every team needs role players to help," Giglio said. "But that doesn't hold weight for me when the star player doesn't do enough.
"Joel didn't do anything last fourth quarter, and we have people saying 'What about the role players?' He's their best player!"
Giglio says Embiid needs to be carrying the bulk of the weight like he did in game three, when he dropped 50 points in Philly's lone win of the series through four games. And when he doesn't, he doesn't want to hear that it's because of Tobias Harris or Buddy Hield or Kelly Oubre.
"We have a disease as sports fans in Philadelphia," Giglio said. "We make the role players more important in our minds than the star players. It's unbelievable."
