If a team wants to trade into the top 10 in the upcoming NFL Draft, it sounds like they’ll have no trouble finding a trade partner.
The problem? No one wants to trade up.
The 2022 draft has two things working against it in terms of potential draft pick trade fireworks. This isn’t considered to be all that good of a quarterback class, and that’s generally the position teams would trade up for. Teams also will trade up for edge rushers, but that’s a deep position this year, so there’s not much incentive to move up.
We’ve heard for a little while now that there are teams willing to move down in the first round. But NFL Media draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said Thursday on the "DA Show" that no one – seriously, no one – wants to trade up.
“The other people I’ve talked to that are picking up in the top 10 would be really excited to trade back. The next phone call I make to somebody that’s excited to move up will be the first,” Jeremiah said. “So, you can be willing to go down, but you’ve got to find somebody who wants to come up. And I don’t know who that would be or what they are chasing.”
At this rate, it seems most likely that any draft pick movement in the first round might only occur for teams picking in the back of the round that can add Day 2 or 3 picks, or if there is a blockbuster trade for someone like Baker Mayfield or Deebo Samuel.
But in terms of the highest picks, they might have to stand pat if for no other reason than they can’t find a decent partner to swap with.
