Giglio: 'Paul George does not automatically make 76ers title contenders'

The Philadelphia 76ers have catapulted up to the second or third favorites to win the NBA Finals on most sportsbooks after the reported signing of Paul George, but Joe Giglio isn't buying it just yet.

"I don't believe that George just signing on the dotted line makes them an automatic NBA Championship contender," Giglio said on Tuesday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas.

"The way I view it is, not yet. When I say contender...I don't mean good team. I don't mean second round. At least the conference finals. I'm not quite there yet on the Sixers. We don't know who the starting five is and I do think continuity matters. Teams that win they play together a lot."

As we enter just the third day of the NBA free-agency negotiating period to be fair, the Philadelphia 76ers' roster consists of only the following players:

Joel Embiid
Tyrese Maxey
Paul George
Kelly Oubre Jr.
Eric Gordon
Andre Drummond
Jared McCain
Adem Bona

Giglio pointed out that starting a 35-year-old Gordon, who the Sixers signed to a one-year minimum deal, would not be ideal for a championship team.

The Sixers reportedly have around $9 million remaining in cap space, plus a potential mid-level exception worth around $8 million (unless they use this for Oubre).
