DeCamara: 'Simms kind of has a point, we overrated Hurts'

Chris Simms called Jalen Hurts "like the most overrated player in football" and Joe DeCamara believes Simms "has a point."

"I'm going to tell you the five dirtiest words in all of human existence: Chris Simms has a point," DeCamara said to start Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show.

"I think it's a tough reality for us, but one that we may need to face here," he continued. "Even in this piece, Chris Simms goes too far. But he has been critical of Hurts. We, now, many of us have become critical of Hurts. Again, maybe not to the same savage degree as he. And I do actually think Chris Simms is a clown. I want to go no further before saying that, I think the guy is a clown.

"But I will say this, he's been telling us that Jalen Hurts ain't that great and now he says overrated.

Simms recently was asked if he would take Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray over Hurts and Simms called Hurts the "most overrated player in football."

"I respect a lot about Jalen Hurts, but I think Jalen Hurts is also like the most overrated player in football," Simms said. "He plays QB for a team that's an all-star team. They have the best o-line in football, it's not even close. They got maybe the best duo at receiver in all of football."

Former Eagles fullback and 94WIP Morning Show co-host Jon Ritchie still completely believes in Hurts and did not appreciate Simms' comments.

"It is unfair what [Simms] is doing," Ritchie responded. "He is punishing Jalen for the greatness of the o-line, he is punishing Jalen for the greatness of the wide receivers. It does get tired, it does feel common place. Jalen wasn't taught enough in the 2023 to look like he was supposed to look."

"Doesn't Chris Simms kind of have a point? Notice I am saying kind of...Do I think he is the most overrated player in football? I don't know and probably not...Here's what I do know, are you ready for this, we overrated him! Whether you want to look in that mirror or not, guys that's a fact. We overrated him."

James Seltzer was on Ritchie's side and debated with DeCamara, saying that he is overreacting to "one down year."

"I think that he is a lot closer than top three than to what you think it is," Seltzer argued. "I think this year he's going to look like a top three quarterback again because I think it was one down year that you are completely overlooking [sic]. And then on top of that for the first half of the year he was an MVP frontrunner."

Simms, a former quarterback himself, infamously ranked Hurts outside of his top 40 NFL quarterbacks in 2021 and had him ranked just 25th heading into the 2022 season behind Justin Fields, Daniel Jones, Trevor Lawrence, and Zach Wilson.

Heading into 2023, Simms bumped Hurts up to the No. 7 QB in the NFL, following his brilliant performance in a Super Bowl loss.

Simms argued against Hurts in December of 2022 for the NFL MVP award.

Hurts, 25, is coming off of a down season where he threw for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a career-high 15 interceptions, while rushing for another 605 yards, 15 touchdowns and losing a career-high five fumbles. After a 10-1 start, Hurts and the Eagles offense stalled out and the team losing six of their final seven games, including an NFC Wildcard round blowout playoff loss at the Tampa Bay Bucs.
