Who should bat lead off for the 2024 Philadelphia Phillies: Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, or Bryson Stott?
Former Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. has a unique take on why Schwarber should lead off.
"One of the reasons why Schwarber is hitting in the one hole is because I'm not sure if he makes enough contract in RBI situations when he's hitting in the four, five, or six hole, that's my thought," Amaro said on Wednesday's 94WIP Morning Show. "He swings and misses so much and strikes out so much, that when he has RBI opportunities, I'm not sure he's the guy I want there to be the RBI guy...That's why I think he's probably better off in the one hole than he is in the four or five hole."
"I am, first off, extremely torn and I think it's evidence by this poll." Joe DeCamara said on Thursday. "This is one of those things where you can make viable arguments in a lot of different directions, I totally recognize that.
"Trea Turner should be the lead off hitter. He's just a better player. I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a higher on base percentage than Kyle Schwarber...I want speed at the top of the lineup. That clearly obviously favors Turner. You still have power...he should get you 30 or 35 home runs, so you still check that box. And here's the other thing, you bat the better player earlier, which means you bat the better player more often."
