Alessia Cara on 'Love & Hyperbole', collaborating with John Mayer, and Chappell Roan's GRAMMY win

'I've been sitting on this music for so long, and it's my favorite music I've ever written'

As it's been about a decade since "Scars To Your Beautiful," Alessia and Bennett reflected on some of her past hits still making an impact today. "These are songs that I play every morning on my show in Philadelphia," Bennett tells her. "What does that mean to you after all these years? These songs still mean so much to everyone," he adds.

"It's crazy, and thank you for playing them still, I appreciate it. It's honestly so wild because you don't even think people are gonna hear these songs once or care about them once, let alone year after year after year. It's so interesting now, seeing people out of my demographic that are younger, that are discovering these songs again. I feel like it's becoming, scary to say, almost like nostalgic music for some people, the same way I feel about early 2000s and '90s."

Fast-forward 10 years to present day, Alessia dives into how it feels to have her new project out in the world. "I just feel so happy that it's out. I've been sitting on this music for so long, and it's my favorite music I've ever written. So, I'm just so happy that people get to hear it now."

1. Go Outside!
2. Left Alone
3. Dead Man
4. Subside
5. Run Run
6. Drive
7. Get To You
8. (Isn't It) Obvious
9. Garden (Interlude)
10. Nighttime Thing
11. Feels Right
12. Fire
13. Slow Motion
14. Clearly

While noting their favorite album tracks, Alessia discussed the special appearance from John Mayer on "(Isn't It) Obvious" and how it came to fruition. "He's amazing. He's one of my favorite artists ever," she admits. "One of my favorite musicians ever. I've always had him in the back of my mind for maybe someday doing some sort of collab. I didn't want to use the card until it felt like the right song. So, once I wrote '(Isn't It) Obvious,' I thought, 'This would be so cool for John Mayer' but I just didn't say anything for a while."

"Then it came time to turn in the song,"" Alessia adds, "and there was an empty space in it I either had to choose to write something to, leave it, or I didn't know what to do. I was like, 'A John Mayer solo here would be just spectacular,' so I just bit the bullet and asked, fully expecting him to politely decline, and it was the complete opposite."

While chatting about more of Alessia's favs, Bennett looked back on Alessia winning her well-deserved 2018 GRAMMY for Best New Artist, asking about her thoughts on Chappell Roan taking home the crown this year.

"Oh my gosh, I love her, love her. I felt like she was gonna win that. Her artistry is just so beautiful, and so well crafted," Alessia gushed. "There were so many other people that I was also rooting for, that category was the most stacked I've seen. I was like, I genuinely don't know who I would pick. There are so many incredible artists this year that have just been working for years that have finally broken through. I thought it was great. I'm so happy for her, and I'm so happy for everyone in that category who's had such a wonderful year."
