Back in March, Charlie released his short film That's Not How This Works with Sabrina Carpenter, telling us now he believes he owes the mini-movie's massive success to his co-star. "I think you are who you surround yourself with," he explains. "Sabrina actually helped me become a better actor... I really wanted her to be a part of it -- and I was really happy she agreed to be a part of it -- because I think she's a great actor as well as a singer; She has her version of the song out as well."

"But that really intense scene -- the reason I say she made me a better actor -- that first scene that we filmed," he continues, "was the most intense thing ever, and it was the first thing that we filmed. I was like, 'There's no way this is gonna come off as genuine,' but it did in a way. Acting!"

The bug certainly bit Charlie, who has since begun working on his own scripted comedy series. "There's no title for it yet but it's gonna be on Roku," Puth says. "They're a wonderful company and I'm very happy to be in business with them. It's gonna be a show about my life... we just have to start filming it."

Although unscripted, Puth's Charlie Live Experience tour weaves certain aspects of Broadway into the performances, separating the show into different acts. "I always loved 'Hairspray,' and this tour that we're putting on this summer," he explains, "there are acts in it... and it's kind of treated as a play," he says.

"It's theatrical in a way, so maybe that's in the deep subconscious of my brain," Charlie adds. "I have a strong fascination with over-the-top musical moments, and how actors can portray them on the stage."
