By now we all know the saying, and in case you don’t here it is — “once Kelly Clarkson covers your song, it‘s no longer your song.” And while, no, that’s not a quote from a famous philosopher and just an internet-wide opinion, Kelly has done it again, this time with Katy Perry’s “Wide Awake.”

For her latest cover during the Kellyoke segment of her show, Clarkson sang a powerful rendition of Perry’s 2012 hit, and got the seal of approval and then some from its original singer.
"Ok dang I can never sing that again," Perry commented on an Instagram post featuring a clip of Clarkson's stripped-down cover. Which has now become the general expected response every time Kelly shares a cover.
After sharing a rendition of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” during a Kellyoke segment in February, Sabrina hit up the comments section to say, “Kelly 😭😭 you’re simply amazing i am honored.”
Also performing a cover of Jelly Roll's "Save Me,” the new-to-Country artist had the same sentiments, posting, “I would’ve never believed you if you would’ve told me that I’d write a song so impactful that incredible Kelly Clarkson would deem it worthy to cover. Thank you Kelly- wow - I’m honored in a way I can’t even described - I cried watching it,” on X.
Obviously, Katy, Sabrina and Jelly Roll aren’t the first to praise Clarkson for her covers of their songs, and certainly they won’t be the last. Check out the full performance of "Wide Awake" below.
