Al Roker’s flight from New York City to Washington D.C. took a bit longer than usual.
The iconic weatherman was attempting to take the quick flight from NYC to D.C. but was slowed by smoky skies caused by Canadian wildfires drifting across the East Coast.
While unable to takeoff, Roker posted a video to his Instagram from his airplane window. The sky had taken on a yellow hue as he was on the ground at LaGuardia Airport.
“It’s so hazy that I’m waiting to take off on a flight to Washington, D.C.,” Roker says in the video. “They are stretching out the landings and takeoffs and we’re still delayed and fifteenth for takeoff all because of the smoke that’s out there.”
“Yikes!” he added for emphasis.
New York City experienced its worst air on record June 7, according to 1010 WINS. The same day Roker posted his video.

Earlier this year, Roker returned to his post on “TODAY” following months-long hiatus after two long hospital stays. The newsman had blood clots in his lungs but has returned to work full-time.
