Did somebody say "Wagon Wheel Watusi” and “What do you know about air rights?” Because word around the musical theater mess hall is that Christina Aguilera is executive-producing a new stage musical based on her 2010 movie, Burlesque.

Titled Burlesque: The Musical, and written by the film's director, Steven Antin, the stage production of the cult classic (it is, we don’t care if you think otherwise) will apparently include songs written for the film by Aguilera, Diane Warren, and Sia, with additional tunes created by entertainer / choreographer Todrick Hall and Jess Foley.
Expected to debut in the United Kingdom in the near future. Antin himself recently told Entertainment Weekly, "Yes the stage musical adaptation is happening," via email, noting it’s all “very exciting."
For those who don’t already know — the 2010 film featured a stellar cast that included Cher, Stanley Tucci, Alan Cumming, Eric Dane, Julianne Hough, Kristen Bell, and more, and followed Aguilera making her big screen debut as Ali, "an ambitious small-town girl with a big voice who finds love, family, and success in a Los Angeles neo-burlesque club."
Previously talking about the project with the outlet in 2020 to celebrate it’s 10-year anniversary, Steven told EW that he was working on a continuation of the story. "It's inspired by Burlesque: a re-imagination," he explained.
"It morphs what's best about TV, Broadway, film, and digital entertainment. It's a hybrid television event/series taking the movie to the next level."
