In regards to the religious backlash his soon to be released single, “J Christ,” has garnered since its announcement, Lil Nas X simply isn’t interested, or having any of it. In fact he’s defending the track, its artwork, and significance.

After sparking outrage for sharing provocative artwork of himself depicted as a Christlike figure for the announcement of his new song, Nas X had a few things to say.
Taking to X, he wrote, “The crazy thing is nowhere in the picture is a mockery of Jesus. Jesus's image is used throughout history in people's art all over the world.” He continued, “I'm not making fun of s***. y'all just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu”
As he rarely ever does, Nas didn’t stop there. Lil Nas X also shared his “acceptance letter” to Liberty University, claiming that’s where he plans on studying Christian leadership and biblical studies.
“I know twitter hates me right now but I want y'all to know I'm literally about to go to college for biblical studies in the fall. Not everything is a troll! Anyways IM A STUDENT AGAIN! LETS GOOO,” he wrote in the caption.
Irony is, that part might actually be a troll. As the internet did its thing, sleuthing to see if he actually would attend the private evangelical Christian college in Lynchburg, Virginia, many came to the conclusion it's less of a plan and more of a prank. Particularly because the letter, assumed to be fake, is signed by School President Jerry Falwell, who died in 2007. While the current President of Liberty University is Dondi E. Costin.
That aside, Nas is, of course, no stranger to backlash and controversy. The hitmaker previously offended, lets just call them haters, with songs referencing his sexuality, and visuals featuring satanic imagery. Clearly the exact opposite doesn’t appease said haters either.
