Despite recently posting selfies of herself working on music, Selena Gomez, currently on her pre-Oscar press tour, has been adamant about how she’d be pressing pause on churning out any new tunes for time being in order to focus on acting and film. But alas, turns out that was a complete misdirect, as Ms. Gomez has served up a brand new single.

“I always trick you guys 🥰,” Selena captioned a surprise IG post, alongside a series of loved up photos with Benny Blanco, to announce the impending arrival of her album, a collab project with her fiancé and superstar producer. “My NEW album I Said I Love You First with my best friend @bennyblanco, is out on 3/21 🖤Our first song, 'Scared of Loving You' is out now on all streaming platforms. Merchandise and signed products for the album are available for pre-order now. We can’t wait to share this special project with you soon!”
Gomez, who notably admitted to being the first to say those three little words during a “Who’s Most Likely To” TikTok trend video, has been teasing about working on music with her beau for the past few months. Taking to her Instagram Stories in January to share a video wearing headphones while sitting at a makeshift bedroom studio setup. In the video Selena turned the phone around to reveal the screen in front of her, but blocked out its contents with a red heart emoji.
Prior to that post, Benny responded to a fan’s request on a previous TikTok video, asking, “Benny please make some new songs for our queen.” To which Blanco responded with a video of himself opening up the door to his home studio to reveal Gomez sitting on a couch, adjusting a microphone.
On “Scared of Loving You,” which Gomez and Blanco wrote with FINNEAS, who also co-produced the track, the pop star sings about the uncertainty of reciprocated love. “If I lose my s***, promise not to laugh / If I throw a fit and get photographed / Would you take my side? Would you hold my hand? / If they sell a lie, don’t let them send me back.” Before illuminating on the song’s title in the chorus, “'Cause I'm not scared of lovin' you / I’m just scared of losin' you / I’m not scared of anyone or dying young / Or if you're gonna find somebody new / ‘Cause how could they love you / As much as I do?”
“Scared of Loving You,” arrived alongside a lyric video featuring clips of the engaged couple giggling with each other and sharing kisses in a bedroom.
Hardly the first time Blanco and Gomez have worked on music together, before their engagement and now upcoming album, the pair were frequent musical collaborators. Blanco co-produced two songs, "Kill Em with Kindness" and "Same Old Love," on Gomez's 2015 album Revival. They also collaborated on 2019’s “I Can’t Get Enough,” alongside Tainy and J Balvin. And most recently, they worked on Selena’s 2023 summer single “Single Soon.”
Per the press release, the upcoming album celebrates Gomez and Blanco's love story and gives "fans a unique window into their relationship.”
"This album came together organically as a direct result of the comfort that they both felt when working together creatively, allowing them to produce art that authentically reflects their experiences," the press release went on to state. "It chronicles their entire story—before they met, falling in love and looking to what the future holds.”
