S. Korea Will "Love That Chicken"! (LISTEN)

Restaurant Brands International Inc. signs a deal to open Popeyes franchises in South Korea

There's a lot of reason I call South Korea 'Cool Korea'. It's not even a competition when comparing South Korea's coolness to their northern counterpart. Did you know that in South Korea, you can legally choose from more than 15 different types of haircuts? How cool is that?

One of the coolest things to recently happen to South Korea is that they're getting a whole bunch of Popeyes franchises! South Korea finally gets to have that Louisiana fried chicken experience!...sort of...

Although I'm excited that the people of Cool Korea gets to enjoy some Louisiana style fried chicken, a part of me knows that they won't be getting the authentic Louisiana style taste.

I love Popeyes, but I especially love the Popeyes's here in New Orleans. There's something about the way we season our spicy chicken in New Orleans that separates our local franchises from the rest of the nation. I find that the further away I get from New Orleans, the less Popeyes tastes like real Popeyes. I'm not saying that Popeyes's in other places are bad, but it's not unfair to say that the Popeyes's in New York or California are not as tasty as any of the Popeyes's in New Orleans. My theory is that the franchises in other parts of the country have to use less spice and seasoning on their chicken to make it more palatable for those who don't have our southern spice tolerance.

With that being said, if the Popeyes from other parts of the Unites States aren't as tasty as the ones from New Orleans, it stands to reason that Popeyes's in other countries are even blander. Do you really think that the Popeyes's in Romania or Saudi Arabia are getting the true New Orleans seasoning experience? I doubt it. So, although I'm excited that Cool Korea will be getting Popeyes, I'm a bit bummed out that the quality of Popeyes chicken the Cool Koreans are getting can't compare to the way it's done in New Orleans.
