Slash and Duff’s new track, “I Can Breathe,” was released this Giving Tuesday, featuring McKagan’s lyrics and vocals, Slash on lead guitar, and Gibson CEO Cesar Gueikian on rhythm guitar and piano.
The GN’R members are the latest to offer up their services for the Gibson Band, described as “a revolving collective of musicians who join together to make music and raise funds and awareness for worthy causes.” Around this time last year, System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian and Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi collaborated on the first Gibson Band single, “Deconstruction.”

McKagan says of the track in a press release: “The musical slant and progressive rock-ness of this huge epic pushed me in a whole new direction. I love a challenge and Cesar killed it! Most importantly, to be of service for mental health issues and awareness is super important to me at this time. Let’s rock!”
“Cesar and Duff came to me with a really cool piece of music. I loved the riff idea, and Duff’s vocal, so I felt right at home on the track,” Slash said. Gueikian also adds that recording with Duff and Slash was “a dream come true”, and feels it is an honor to call them both “friends and partners.”
All proceeds from “I Can Breathe” will benefit the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) through the guitar brand’s non-profit, Gibson Gives.
