The NFL MVP race is heating up as we enter the second half of the season, and it’s shaping up to be an exciting battle between some of the league’s top quarterbacks. Patrick Mahomes opened as the favorite at +600 on BetMGM, with Josh Allen (+800) and Joe Burrow (+900) close behind. But after nine weeks, the odds have shifted, bringing a few new contenders into the mix.

Right now, Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson are tied at the top of the odds board at +300. Allen has guided the Buffalo Bills to an impressive 7-2 record, accounting for 20 total touchdowns and just two interceptions—showcasing his growth as both a passer and a decision-maker. Jackson, meanwhile, has been stellar in Baltimore, leading the Ravens to a 6-3 record with 20 passing touchdowns and over 500 rushing yards, highlighting his unique dual-threat ability. Jackson, who won the MVP award last year, is aiming to become just the third player in history to win back-to-back MVP’s, which would also mark his third overall.

Interestingly, despite his elite play and status as a co-favorite, Jackson isn’t dominating in ticket or handle percentages. He holds 7.6% of the total tickets, tied with Mahomes for the second-most. Allen, meanwhile, is close behind with 7.5% of the tickets and a solid 11.5% of the handle.

On the other hand, Jared Goff is making a strong impact in the MVP conversation. Sitting fourth in the odds at +700, Goff leads the NFL in both ticket percentage (10.9%) and handle percentage (11.6%), indicating strong bettor confidence in his chances. Goff has orchestrated the league’s top-scoring offense, with the Lions averaging an impressive 32.3 points per game. This high-powered offense has propelled Detroit to a 7-1 record, making them not only the favorites to win the NFC North (-300) but also to contend for the NFC title (+220), trailing only the Kansas City Chiefs (+400) in Super Bowl odds at +500.

Goff is also the sportsbook’s biggest liability. With his MVP odds opening at +4000, a Goff MVP win would be a huge payout for those who bought in early. Many saw his opening line as a potential mispricing, given Detroit’s offensive firepower and Goff’s steady leadership. Now, with the Lions sitting as one of the top teams in the league, his odds have surged, and he has become much more than a long shot. While Allen and Jackson remain the favorites, Goff’s continued momentum makes him a contender who could shake up the MVP race down the stretch.
