American Airlines to continue suspension of alcohol sales into 2022

American Airlines will continue its suspension of alcohol sales in the main cabin into January of 2022.

The carrier, based in Fort Worth, stopped selling alcohol at the beginning of the pandemic to limit contact between staff and passengers; American has extended the ban on alcohol sales after requests from flight attendants dealing with an increase in unruly passengers.

American had planned to resume alcohol sales in the main cabin September 13. The suspension of alcohol sales will now continue until at least January 18, 2022.

TSA's requirement for passengers and airline employees to wear masks continues through the same day.

American says it has also been working with the FAA and hopes to end "to go" alcohol sales at its two largest hubs: DFW Airport and Charlotte.

Alcohol is still available to passengers in first class.

Southwest Airlines, based in Dallas, has also suspended alcohol sales but has not set a date to resume.
