David Hasselhoff took to his personal Instagram to remember old pal Paul Reubens, who recently at passed at 70-years-old.

Hasselhoff posted an old black-and-white image of himself and Reubens in tribute of the beloved creator of Pee-wee Herman.

Paul Reubens was a great, great friend. He gave me the muppets for my birthday and never forgot anyone’s birthday from our class. He was in my class at CalArts and room mates! He was always kind to me and to everyone. He will be missed,” Hasselhoff captioned the post.

The photo features the two men from years ago, as a grinning Hasselhoff stands next to Reubens as he’s clad in the Pee-wee suit and bow tie.

An inscription on the photo reads, “To my ol’ college buddy David aarrrrrr! Your pal, Pee-wee Herman.’

On July 31, representatives for Reubens confirmed he had died as a result of cancer. He had been fighting the disease for six years but had not gone public with his diagnosis.

In a statement to the publication PEOPLE, his reps wrote, "Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness.”
