Hill recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and recalled one of the most terrifying moments of her career, which was singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 2000.

“Singing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl was terrifying,” Hill exclaimed with a look of fear on her face. “The most extraordinary amount of pressure ever.”

Hill recalled rehearsing in the public restroom with a boom box all day until it was time for her to take the field. Se admitted the only thing keeping her calm once she got there were her fellow Tennesseans on the field.

“When I sang it, the Tennessee Titans happened to make it to the Super Bowl that same year… That calmed me because I was so proud of our team.”

As it turns out, Faith’s fear didn’t come from nowhere. She proceeded to tell a story of forgetting the first word of the National Anthem as she walked on to the field to perform it at a playoff game in Dallas earlier in her career.

“It’s one of those songs you know so well and you think, ‘Oh, I’ll never forget the lyrics,’ [but] it’s happened to me before,” she shared.

“I’m walking out to the center of the field with this very generous guard, this woman that was walking me out and I say to her… ‘Would you happen to know just the first word of the National Anthem? All I need is the first word.’”

With the guard being no help, Faith created a back-up plan to sing “Amazing Grace.”

“I’m just going to sing ‘Amazing Grace,’ because they’ll forgive me for that,” she laughed.

All has clearly turned out A-OK for Faith and her career and she is more than happy to pass the National Anthem singing honors to the next generation of Country musicians, like Mickey Guyton.

Hill expressed a great amount of enthusiasm for Guyton, who has been revealed as the one to do the honors at Super Bowl LVI.

“I am such a huge fan and supporter and she is going to slay it,” Hill said. Mickey, if you’re reading this, the first word is “Oh!”
