The Boston Bruins have revealed their newest alternate uniforms as part of the NHL's "Hometown Remix" series for the 2026-27 season.

And, they're pretty unique. For starters, they're brown. While the Bruins have included brown in a few alternates over the years (including the 2023-24 centennial season alternates and the 2010 and 2019 Winter Classics), they actually have not used brown as the primary color on a jersey since their very first season as a team, way back in 1924-25.

Adding to the history, this Hometown Remix get-up will feature gold helmets, marking the first time ever that the Bruins will wear gold helmets. They have previously worn just black, white and brown helmets.

These will also be the first Bruins jerseys to feature numbers on the front since 1948. The Bruins regularly had numbers on the front of their jersey from 1935-48, including during two Stanley Cup seasons in 1939 and 1941. In 1948, the team introduced the famous Spoked-B logo and never went back to numbers on the front.

The "Bruins" wordmark across the front and the "B" logo on the shoulder are both new, and are inspired by college wordmarks and designs. The Bruins leaned into a "Causeway University" theme in the build-up to the release of the new uniform.

Here is some more background from the team's official press release:

The Varsity Sweater celebrates Boston's hockey heritage through features such as the arched wordmark and chest numeral. Additional features include rugger-inspired double sleeve stripes, beveled numerals on the back and a collegiate-style shoulder crest. The jersey's hemline also features a nod to Boston's famous Freedom Trail.

“College hockey is a big part of Boston’s identity, and the tradition and success of the programs in our city have helped make this one of the best hockey communities in the world,” said Boston Bruins President Cam Neely. “The Varsity Sweater is a great way to recognize that history while bringing back elements of the Bruins’ original look. It’s a unique jersey that celebrates both our team’s history and the strong connection between the Bruins and Boston’s hockey community.”
