The Celtics won't have to wait long to see Kemba Walker with his new team. The team announced Tuesday that it will open the 2021-22 season on Oct. 20 against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

The C's also announced that they will once again be playing on Christmas Day, when they'll take on the defending champion Bucks in Milwaukee at 2:30 p.m.

In Brad Stevens' first move as president of basketball operations, the Celtics traded Walker to Oklahoma City on June 18 in a salary-clearing move. The Celtics also gave up a first- and second-round pick and got Al Horford, Moses Brown and a second-round pick in return.

The Thunder then waived Walker earlier this month and he ultimately signed with his hometown Knicks.

The Knicks also acquired Evan Fournier this offseason, a move that was officially announced on Tuesday as a sign-and-trade with Boston. The Celtics, who had traded for Fournier at last season's trade deadline, also gave up two second-round picks while gaining a $17.1 million traded player exception.

The Celtics' full 2021-22 schedule will be released Friday at 3 p.m.
