Eduardo Rodriguez' time with the Red Sox has reportedly come to an end.
The 28-year-old starting pitcher - who arrived in the Sox organization thanks to 2014 trade deadline deal with the Orioles for Andrew Miller - is close to finding a new home. Early Monday morning, The Athletic reported Rodriguez and the Tigers were close on a deal. Jon Heyman then followed up with news that a five-year deal had been agreed upon between the two sides.
Rodriguez turned down the Red Sox' one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer last week, with multiple teams showing interest in the lefty.
Rodriguez is coming off an up-and-down 2021 season after missing all of 2020 due to myocarditis. He finished the regular season with a 13-8 record and 4.74 ERA (although his Fielding-Independent Pitching was 19th among all qualified MLB starters at 3.38).
The southpaw finished sixth in American League Cy Young voting in 2019 after winning 19 games in a league-high 34 starts, finishing with a 3.81 ERA.
For his Red Sox career, Rodriguez pitched in 170 regular and postseason games, making 157 starts. The team's record in games he appeared was 108-62, with his combined ERA finishing up at 4.22.
