Fenway Sports Group, Kraft Group ranked in top 10 'World’s Most Valuable Sports Empires'

The owners of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots are in possession of two of the “valuable sports empires” in the world, according to a new list from CNBC’s Michael Ozanian.

As Celtics fans await approval of the $6.1 billion sale this summer, both Fenway Sports Group and the Kraft Group – who hold multiple franchises and businesses within their portfolios – dwarf that price tag.

Fenway Sports Group ranks fourth in the world with a valuation of $14.19 billion. John Henry’s collection of franchises includes not just the Red Sox, but also the Premier League’s Liverpool, Pittsburgh Penguins, NESN television channel, and PGA Tour Enterprises. FSG sits just behind Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment, the group headed by Josh Harris and David Blitzer that owns the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia 76ers, among other franchises.

The Kraft Group comes in at No. 8 with an $11 billion valuation. Robert Kraft’s empire is spearheaded by the New England Patriots, but also holds MLS’ New England Revolution, Kraft Analytics, and the Patriot Place shopping and entertainment center surrounding Gillette Stadium.

Both portfolios boasted by FSG and Kraft are worth more than the ownership groups behind the Golden State Warriors and New York Yankees, according to CNBC.

The world's most valuable sports empire belongs to Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, whose collection of the Los Angeles Rams, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, and Premier League’s Arsenal stack up to a value of $21.17 billion.
