The Red Sox are being forced to lean on yet another player from Triple-A Worcester as they head through the regular season's home stretch.
The team announced Sunday morning that Nick Pivetta has been placed on the COVID-19 related injury list, necessitating the promotion of pitcher Kutter Crawford.
The 25-year-old Crawford will get the start in the Red Sox' series final against the Indians Sunday at Fenway Park, marking the pitcher's major league debut.
After beginning the 2021 season in Double-A Portland, the product of Florida Gulf Coast University (Chris Sale's alma mater) was promoted to Triple-A in July. His most recent outing came on Aug. 27 when he allowed just one run on one hit over six innings while striking out eight and not walking a batter against Buffalo.
Crawford, who was taken in the 16th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, was reportedly a target of the Twins when talking with the Red Sox about reliever Hansel Robles heading into the trade deadline.
