Kyle Van Noy’s one year as a Miami Dolphin in 2020 obviously included a pair of regular season games against his former Patriots team and that squad’s new quarterback.

The teams split those on-field battles, New England winning the season opener in Foxborough that saw Miami defenders, including Van Noy, getting in Cam Newton’s face late in the Patriots win.

In a Wednesday video call with the local media, Van Noy was asked about things getting “chippy” a year ago as he returns to the Patriots defense where he had so much success from 2016-19.

“I want to talk to Cam,” Van Noy said of straightening things out. “I feel like me and Cam have a similar mindset and that’s to win. I’m excited to work with him. I’ve heard nothing but good things. I think everybody is going to be excited after hopefully we have dinner, and I’ll pay for it, and just get to know each other better. I think it’s a good rivalry. Everybody knows everybody. People played on both sides. So it’s going to be good.”

Van Noy, who’s never been afraid to speak his mind on or off the field, went on to explain that the doesn’t think the talking that went on between the Patriots and Dolphins last fall will be an issue as he settles back into life in New England.

“It’s part of football. I think everybody blows it out of proportion when there is trash talking in football,” Van Noy said. “It’s part of the game. It’s part of the game. Some players are better than others. Some have terrible jokes, some have good ones. Some can get under skin, some can’t. It’s part of the game. And I think it’s…yeah, it’s part of the game and I don’t think anyone takes personal. If they do, then that’s their deal.”
