Marcell Ozuna is returning to the Atlanta Braves, who finished a game away from winning the National League pennant this past season.
Ozuna, per RADIO.COM MLB Insider Jon Heyman, has landed a four-year deal from the Braves. The deal, per Robert Murray of FanSided, is worth $65 million, with a $15 million option for a fifth season.
The Red Sox were thought to have some interest in Ozuna.
After signing a one-year, prove-it deal with the Braves last offseason, Ozuna, well, proved it. In the pandemic-shortened season, Ozuna, 30, slashed .338/.431/.636 with 18 home runs, 56 RBIs and a 2.5 fWAR.
Ozuna is probably best-geared to be a DH, though he can play left field if the DH doesn't return to the National League in 2021. The widespread expectation is that the DH will become universal on a permanent basis in 2022, after a new collective bargaining agreement is reached.
