Michael Chavis' progression will now be taking place back in Triple-A.
The Red Sox announced Monday that the infielder was being sent back down to Worcester. There was no corresponding move attached to the demotion, although it is believed Christian Arroyo will likely be activated for Tuesday's game against the Braves at Fenway Park.
Chavis certainly had his moments during the most recent stint with the big-league team, hitting .273 with a .758 OPS and a home run in 11 games (33 plate appearances).
The righty hitter had four two-hit games during the 2 1/2-week run, although there were 13 strikeouts in his 33 at-bats.
Chavis' propensity to swing outside the strike zone -- particularly at elevated fastballs -- continues to be an issue, with 46 percent of his swings resulting whiffs.
And while Franchy Cordero would seemingly be another candidate to clear room on the roster, he swings from the left side, plays outfield and is coming off a game that included a 472-foot home run.
